The World Summit Award (WSA) is a 3 year global project held in the framework of the United Nations’ first World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and organized with the support of and in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and a number of further partners. The parent organization is the International Center for New Media (ICNM), based in Austria.

WSA selects, showcases and promotes world’s best multimedia products and applications and sees the narrowing of the content gap as a key goal. It will add to the United Nations’ focus on infrastructure, access issues and digital divide the issues of quality content and creative applications. The project involves representatives from numerous countries from each continent and networks throughout 191 UN’s member states.

Presently, we would ask to ask you to consider the following involvement:

As a part of its activities, the WSA will showcase the best practice e-content examples from 191 UN’s member states in the framework of the WSIS in Geneva in December 2003. The products will be chosen on the basis of a selection made by a panel of eminent experts from all over the world. The main task of the Expert Panel member will be to propose the country’s best in e-content products in the 8 WSA categories to the World Summit Award 2003.

We would like to invite you to offer you expertise and to nominate your candidature or the expert of your choice to exclusively represent COUNTRY in the framework of the WSA 2003.

Let me also informyou that we are still missing expert registration from

1. Albania

2. Bosnia And Herzegovina

3. The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

4. Serbia and Montenegro

If these countries will not register an expert until August 24th into the WSA database, they will have to be excluded from the WSA process, at least in 2003 and no products can and will be entered. In order to avoid this situation I would like to ask you for your support and to provide us, if possible, appropriate multimedia professionals from these countries.
